Suspect Hospitalized, Officer Sustains Minor Injury In Morning AC Knife Incident

A suspect was hospitalized – and an Ark City Police officer sustained minor injuries – in a family disturbance involving a knife early Saturday morning, according to Police Chief Eric Burr.

The suspect was taken into custody after the suspect made a self-inflicted wound following a brief standoff. An additional victim at the scene was identified with a cut wound as a result of the disturbance.

The suspect was transported to SCK Medical Center by Arkansas City EMS and was later transferred to a Wichita hospital. The suspect was transported in stable condition and is listed in stable condition at this time.  

The victim at the home and the officer were both treated at the scene and released.

At 5:18 a.m., officers were called to the 400 block of North A Street in response to an open line 911 call. Upon arrival, officers found an active disturbance between family members.  

Officers encountered a 43 year old, Arkansas City man who was armed with a knife. One Arkansas City Police Officer was cut during the incident. The suspect became barricaded in the home before being taken into custody by police.  

 The incident is currently under active investigation. More information on criminal charges will be released soon. No names have been made public, thus far.
