Drinking Party: Cowley Athletes Suspected In Incident That Left Person Hospitalized

The Cowley County Sheriff’s Dept. is continuing to investigate an underage drinking party early Sunday where an altercation led to a person being hospitalized with burns from a fire.

Members of the Cowley College wrestling team were at the party and two members of the team, not identified by name so far, are suspects in the case, Cowley County Sheriff David Falletti said Friday.

“Since it was an off campus gathering the students were at,” Rama Peroo, a spokesperson for the college, said. “We are letting the investigation take its course.”

An injured male was treated at SCK Medical Center emergency room for his injuries and later transferred to Wichita for further treatment.

After speaking with the individual, it was determined the incident occurred at an unknown location in rural Cowley County. The injured person was then sent to a hospital in Wichita.

Sunday evening, deputies were able to speak with the individual again. He said he had been drinking at a party when an altercation occurred and he was struck by someone and fell into a campfire.

The individual didn’t have much recollection of the events that occurred, however, a person who had been with the individual at the party stated that after the injured person fell, a second suspect pushed him back down as he was trying to get up.

This investigation is ongoing and there have been no arrests at this time, according to the sheriff’s dept.
