DUI checkpoints planned for mid August

A program to identify intoxicated or impaired drivers is being conducted this month by the Arkansas City Police Department, Cowley County Sheriff’s Office and the Kansas Highway Patrol.

Officers will set up a checkpoint at unknown locations Aug. 10 and 11th.

Drivers suspected of intoxication or impairment will be given brief sobriety field tests. Those found to be under the influence or impaired will be arrested.

Efforts will be made not to severely interrupt traffic flow. Citizens’ patience and cooperation will assist in this important effort, according to a law enforcement press release.
