Knapp interim director for comm. corrections

An intensive supervision officer for Cowley County Community Corrections has been named interim director.

Mike Knapp will fill the gap left by the retirement Friday of former director Tex Gough.

The county has received 28 applications for the position but has not yet begun interviews.

Knapp is a veteran law enforcement officer who served as a deputy in the Cowley County Sheriff’s Office and rose through the ranks to jail administrator. He left the position to move to Alaska and has been with community corrections since he returned to Kansas.

There are five other employees in the department which currently has a caseload of 173, and a nearly $300,000 budget.
