Local Safe Homes program gets fed grant

The local Safe Homes program has been awarded $59,678 from the Federal Victims of Crime Act Victim Assistance grant program, Gov. Kathleen Sebelius announced Wednesday.

The grant money will be used by organizations across the state to provide direct services to crime victims by responding to their emotional and physical needs, assisting victims in stabilizing their lives, and helping victims feel safe.

“Their financial support will provide programs with additional resources to help those who have been impacted by crime,” Sebelius said. “These organizations play an essential role in the recovery of victims and their families.”

Nine different agencies in Sedgwick County receive VOCA funding.
