Safe Homes secures $31,000 in grant money

The local Safe Homes organization has received two grants totaling $31,000 for crime victim’s services and programs across the state.

Safe Homes provides services in Cowley, Chautauqua, Elk and Sumner counties to approximately 350 women each year.

The $2.25 million in grant awards were announced today by Attorney General Steve Six. The grants are administered by the Kansas Office of Attorney General’s Victim Services Division.

"I commend all programs receiving grants this year for their hard work and commitment to Kansas crime victims," Six said. "I look forward to learning how the grants have improved each awardees’ ability to provide effective services to victims."

Safe Homes received $4,000 for children’s programs, $28,500 for sexual assault victims and $2,500 for services for victims of domestic violence.

Six also calls for the funds to be used effectively for victim services so there is a heightened focus on efficiency and accountability in the participating programs. In keeping with that focus, the Victim Services Division will now offer workshops on financial management, business practices and procedures, grant writing and victim centered service delivery.

The Victim Services staff will also continue to conduct site visits to ensure that quality services are provided for victims across the state. They will also conduct technical assistance visits to address the specific needs of grant program.
