Oh deer!: Eight people hit deer over weekend

It was not a great weekend to be a deer trying to cross the road. The Cowley County Sheriff’s office reported eight vehicle versus deer collisions over the weekend.

The Kansas Highway Patrol and the sheriff’s department say this is the time of year when deer are out and about looking to mate. Accidents always spike during this time of year and law enforcement officials urge caution on roadways, especially when traveling at higher speed or at night.

Three deer related accident occurred Friday, three more were reported on Saturday and another two were reported on Sunday. All but two of the accidents occurred on one of the county’s major highways, including U.S. 77, U.S. 160, U.S. 166 and K-15.
