Geuda Springs man dies when cycle hits deer

A Geuda Springs man died early Monday after his high-performance motorcycle apparently hit a deer about 12 miles southwest of Winfield, according to a report from the Sumner County Sheriff Department.

Joshua Skibbe was riding a 2007 Suzuki motorcycle along Oxford Road between Oxford and Geuda Springs when he struck a large buck and was thrown off the bike. Skibbe was dead at the scene of the accident, which occurred around 5:30 a.m.

Investigators believe Skibbe was traveling at about 100 miles an hour at the time of the accident, Sumner County Sheriff Gerald Gilkey told the Wichita Eagle.

He was not wearing a helmet.
