Injured motorcycle driver still critical

An Oklahoma man injured in a motorcycle accident near Arkansas City Sunday remained in critical condition Thursday.

Edward E. Hathcoat, 45, Tahlequah, was headed west on U.S. 166 and crossed U.S. 77. The motorcycle struck the front bumper of a 2004 Nissan being driven by Keokouson Srimoungchanh, 46, of Winfield. Hathcoat was thrown from the motorcycle, the highway patrol reported.

Hathcoat was not wearing a helmet, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.

Both drivers were taken to South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center. Srimoungchanh was treated and released and Hathcoat was transferred to Via Christi Regional Medical Center – St. Francis campus in Wichita.

A spokeswoman for the medical center said Hathcoat was still in critical condition.
