Highway Patrol investigates 3 local wrecks

Most anything on area roads had trouble staying on the roads over the weekend as the second winter storm of the season slid in. The Kansas Highway Patrol investigated three injury accidents, although none of the injuries were believed to be serious.

Carl J. Nolem, 35, Winfield, slid off K-15 Saturday afternoon about 15 miles east of Winfield. His 2007 Honda struck a guardrail, went into a ditch and through a fence. Nolem was taken to Newton Memorial Hospital for possible injuries.

Roxanne C. Thibodeau, 17, Udall, was approximately one-half mile north of Udall on 21st Road when her 1994 Ranger slid off the road into a ditch coming to rest in a pasture. She was transported to the Wellington hospital by family to be evaluated.

The third accident reported by the KHP involved Mary C. Mashburn, 30, of Shidler, Okla. She was headed south on K-15 just north of the U.S. 166 junction when she attempted to avoid a deer. The 1995 Ford Van she was driving left the road and went into a ditch. She was taken to the Arkansas City hospital with possible injuries.
