Officers search for non-existent passengers

First responders searched an area around a one-car accident on K-15 Tuesday night before deciding the three passengers the driver claimed were in the car were actually in Webb City, Okla., according to Cowley County Undersheriff Don Read.

The accident occurred about 9 p.m. about four miles north of the Oklahoma boarder, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.

Christina N. Sifferd, 28, Skiatook, Okla., was northbound on K-15 when her passenger car left the road and went into a steep ditch, the patrol reported.

A resident in the area notified authorities that the person involved in the accident was at his residence, Read said. Sifferd claimed others were in the car at the time of the accident.

Sheriff’s deputies were able to locate the three who said they had been with Sifferd earlier but were not involved in the accident.

She was taken to the hospital in Arkansas City for evaluation. No information was available from the hospital concerning her condition.
