Man crashes car after attempting to flee cops

A Louisiana man stole a pickup from McDonalds early Monday morning and tried to outrun police before crashing at the entrance to Island Park, according to the Winfield Police Department.

David B. Fendley, 35, was booked into the county jail for auto theft, burglary to an auto, criminal damage to property, driving under the influence, illegal U-turn, running two red lights, speeding, eluding police, no valid driver’ s license and obstructing justice, police reported.

Fendley is not cooperating with police and refusing to answer questions, according to chief Jerry DeVore.

The dispatcher received a report at 12:55 a.m. that a white Mazda pickup had just been stolen from the restaurant. Fendley allegedly drove the pickup to Main and then went north. Officers located him in the 1900 block of Main Street.

The stolen vehicle is owned by Kimberly Asbury, a McDonalds employee.

Police and Cowley County Sheriff’s deputies attempted to stop the stolen pickup. Fendley refused to stop and eventually lost control and crashed. Fendley fled on foot through Island Park and was apprehended.
