Cowley County Republicans may participate in Saturday’s statewide caucus at any of the caucus locations in the Fourth Congressional District.
However, Sumner County Republicans have invited Cowley County Republicans to attend their caucus at Belle Plaine High School, 822 N. Merchant St., according to party spokeswoman Marci Wheatcroft.
The local central committee chose not to hold a caucus in Cowley County for several reasons. The party raised a lot of money at a recent dinner and party leaders want to save the money for the candidates, Wheatcroft said. In addition, the local party will also hold a platform meeting in March and will fund that with some of the funds raised at the dinner, she said.
The process is “awesome,” Wheatcroft said. She encouraged local Republicans to participate Saturday and expects a good turnout.
The leading candidates for the Republican presidential nomination – John McCain and Mike Huckabee – planned campaign stops in Kansas today. Gov. Mitt Romney dropped out of the race Thursday.
Doors will open at 9 a.m. Voters need a photo identification to present to those handling voter registration. If you have your voter registration card, take it with you for the check-in process.
The meeting will be called to order at 10 a.m. Representatives from various campaigns will have an opportunity to speak for their candidates. Voting will be by secret ballot.
