4 from Wellington hurt when truck flips Sat.

Four young Wellington residents were hurt ? with at least two suffering critical injuries ? in a single-vehicle accident near Belle Plaine early Saturday morning, according to the Sumner County Sheriff’s Department.

Darien Sisson, Matt Brown, Brayden Poppelwell and Curtiss Metz all were ejected from a 2002 Chevrolet pick up truck that flipped twice near the intersection of 40th Ave. and N. Oliver Rd. around 4 a.m.

N. Oliver Rd. is common to area driver’s as the roadway that connects U.S. 160 Highway with Belle Plaine.

No specific ages were available for those involved in the accident but all were believed to be in their late teens or early 20s. All involved are either current or former Wellington High School students.

The accident occurred around 4 a.m when the northbound pick up crossed the center line in the 300 block of N. Oliver and entered the west ditch, according to a sheriff’s report. The vehicle vaulted over 40th Ave. and flipped, ejecting all passengers.

Investigators have yet to determine who was driving the vehicle.

Injuries included broken bones, possible head and spinal injuries and serious cuts and bruises, according to the report.

The vehicle was totaled.

At least two of the victims suffered injuries that threatened their lives, according to a sheriff’s department spokesperson who spoke with NewsCow Sunday.

They had stabilized overnight but remain in critical condition, the spokesperson said.
