Winfield firefighters snuff house blaze Sun.

Firefighters battled a two-story house fire, gusty winds and an eight degree wind chill this morning. No injuries were reported.

The residents of the home at 1414 E. Ninth were not at home when the fire was reported shortly before 9 a.m. Smoke was pouring from all areas of the house when the first firefighters arrived on the scene.

The pale yellow house is located in a neighborhood of mostly older homes, about one block west of EL Maguey restaurant.

The family’s dog did get out safely and was taken to the city pound. The primary search was completed and the fire reported under control at 9:33 a.m.

Arkansas City, Burden and Udall fire departments dispatched men and equipment for mutual aid.
