Sleet and freezing rain may develop in this area between 2 a.m. and 3 a.m. Thursday and continue through much of the day, National Weather Service Meteorologist Kevin Darmofal said Wednesday afternoon.
“There may be a little snow before it ends tomorrow night,” he said.
The wintry mix has prompted a Winter Weather Advisory to be issued in effect from midnight until 6 p.m. Thursday. Darmofal said there is a good chance the advisory may be extended beyond 6 p.m.
“It doesn’t look like a huge winter storm but enough that it will create a glaze of ice on roads and surfaces, trees and power lines,” Darmofal said.
He predicted less than one-fourth of an inch of sleet but between one and one-half inches of snow.
“It’s kind of a mixed bag,” Darmofal said.
Another chance of light snow is also possible on Friday and Saturday.
A winter weather advisory means that period of winter weather will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for slippery roads and limited visibilities and use caution while driving.
