Chief: Toxicology on baby could take weeks

It may take several weeks before investigators receive the results of a toxicology screen conducted on a three-month-old baby who died Sunday, Arkansas City Police Chief Sean Wallace said.

Isabel Brown was not breathing when police responded to an emergency call at the child’s Ark City home at 927 N. 10th St. about 3 a.m. Isobel was pronounced dead a short time later at South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center.

The child’s father, Jeremy Brown, was arrested after police found methamphetamine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia in the home. Tests have been performed on Brown and Isobel’s mother, Hope Hoskins, to determine if either were under the influence of illegal drugs at the time of the child’s death. The results of the tests are not yet known.

An autopsy performed on Isabel at the Sedgwick County Regional Forensic Science Center in Wichita was inconclusive. Doctors have suggested Isabel’s death may have been caused by SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome).
