AC teens each face 46 counts for tire slash

Three 15-year-old boys each have been charged in Cowley County Juvenile Court with 46 counts of criminal damage to property for slashing tires on 48 vehicles throughout Ark City last month. The Arkansas City teens may be charged with two additional counts.

Criminal damage is a Class B misdemeanor and punishable with six months in jail and a fine of up to $1,000. Sentences can be made to run consecutively or concurrently.

Whether the boys’ names will be released will be up to the presiding judge since they are juveniles and in juvenile court.

The boys admitted to police that at first they started with a car that belonged to people they didn’t like, but then began targeting every other car, and then every car. The incidents occurred between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m. on April 12.

The three also admitted to other unsolved vandalism involving painting cars, according to Ark City Police Chief Sean Wallace.
