Tire slashers to pay $10,000; get probation

Three Arkansas City teenagers have to each pay $3,279.60 to the 46 people whose tires they slashed throughout Ark City in April, according to the Cowley County Attorney’s Office.

Garrett Watkins, Colton Hubbard, and David Gay, who were 15 when the crimes were committed, each pleaded guilty to four of the 46 counts of criminal damage to property filed against them in Cowley County District Court in Arkansas City. They will spend two years on probation and pay the restitution ordered by the court.

Criminal damage is a Class B misdemeanor and provides a six month jail sentence should probation be denied.

The boys admitted to police that at first they targeted a car that belonged to people they didn’t like but then began getting every other car, and then every car. The incidents occurred between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m. on April 12. The three also admitted to other unsolved vandalism, police said.
