Sexual assault arrest made at Roundup Sat.

Darrin G. Stewart ? A Winfield Country Roundup contractor ? was arrested and jailed early Saturday after a woman accused Stewart of assaulting her in a men’s bathroom at the Winfield Fairground.

Stewart, 41, was booked into the Cowley County Jail and faces charges of aggravated kidnapping, rape, sexual battery and lewd and lascivious behavior, according to a report from police. He has bonded out of jail, according to Winfield Police Chief Jerry DeVore.

The incident occurred at 3:15 a.m. when officers responded to a reported disturbance near the grandstand area. A woman at the scene told investigators she had been the victim of assault after being taken into the men’s restroom.

Stewart was located in the area and detained. After looking into the incident, police arrested Stewart.

DeVore said that Roundup officials requested that Stewart not be allowed to return to the fairground. The chief would not offer further details of the alleged assault.

“I know the Roundup people didn’t want him back down there,” he said. “Anybody accused of committing those types of acts, they don’t want down there. He’s not part of the Roundup investment group, I know that.”

Stewart runs Total Entertainment Group, which provides the stages and lighting for the Roundup.
