Ark City school officers picked to get award

Arkansas City’s School Resource Officer Unit was recently selected to receive an award from the National Association of School Resource Officers, Ark City Chief Sean Wallace announced this week.

An awards committee met via teleconference June 26 to determine who would be honored. The three-member school resource officer team was notified it had bee chosen to receive the regional exceptional service award for 2008.

Each year the national organization honors various departments that demonstrate excellence in their school resource officer programs. Ark City will be presented its award at the national conference on July 31 in Phoenix.

School Resource Officers Sgt. Kevyn Ternes, Cpl. Anthony Salas, and Patrolman Dan Huntley will all be on hand to receive the award as will Chief Wallace.
