Ark City to be site of Amber Alert test run Fri.

Members of the state’s recently-formed Child Abduction Response Team will work toward national certification with the help of an Amber Alert drill in Ark City scheduled for Oct. 1.

The mock run will begin at 7 a.m. under the direction of the Ark City police department. A number of other local and state agencies are expected to participate, according to a written announcement of the event.

The primary function of the drill is to the state’s abduction response team to evaluate whether the team and other agencies are prepared in case of a child disappearance or abduction.

Certification is determined by the United States Dept. of Justice and this drill will help fulfill a portion of the criteria. The abduction team will, when called up, act as an extra resource for local law enforcement to assist in recovering missing children.

Ark City police chief Sean Wallace offered a reminder that this activity is only a drill. Officers will remain on duty if any true emergency arises during the drill.
