Thurber to be back in courtroom on Tuesday

Capital murder suspect Justin Thurber will be back in a Cowley County courtroom Tuesday morning for a hearing to update the judge on progress in the case.

Attorneys involved in the trial had originally agreed to meet by teleconference to discuss the case with Judge Jim Pringle. But Cowley County Attorney Christopher Smith said this morning that plans had changed and a face-to-face hearing was set for 10 a.m.

He did not explain the change. It’s been well over two month since Thurber appeared in court in late April.

At that time, Pringle told attorneys for the state and for Thurber that he would consider a request to move Thurber’s trial out of Cowley County. The judge must also set a new trial date, after allowing a delay requested by the defense.

Sources told NewsCow that rulings in those matters would likely be made at Tuesday proceedings.

Thurber is accused of killing Jodi Sanderholm, a Cowley College student.
