Weekend passes, Winfield man still missing

An elderly Winfield man is still missing despite efforts by law enforcement agencies in two states which included both ground and air searches.

Jack Howe has not been seen since August 1. His truck was found Aug. 3 south of Caldwell in Oklahoma.

There is still hope Howe will be found alive, according to Cowley Count Sheriff’s Capt. Bill Mueller. He could have left his truck and walked to the highway where he could have caught a ride, Mueller said.

Security video shows the 87-year-old man shopping at the Dillon’s store in Winfield on the day he was last seen. Cameras at the Wal-Mart Supercenter show Howe’s truck leaving the parking lot and going south on U.S. 77.

Howe was wearing red suspenders, a blue flannel shirt with long sleeves, a blue baseball cap and blue jeans. He lives alone. His wife is on a nursing home in another state.
