Scammers ? using tactics similar to those used in a scheme earlier this year ? are targeting area residents by claiming to represent Arkansas City-based Ark Valley Credit Union.
Credit union officials said they have received recent calls from area residents ? some who have a credit union account and others who don’t ? who say the were contacted by the bank by phone.
The credit union said the calls are being placed by scammers who do not represent the credit union. The calls seek account information that can be used to fraudulently empty accounts.
People have been contacted by home phone and cell phones. It is not clear how numbers used in the scheme have been obtained.
Ark Valley Credit Union and area residents were victims of a similar scam ? via email ? that began in February of this year. If you have received one of these call and provided information, please contact the credit union at (620) 442-8210.
