Alsup: Cowley First could have director soon

Cowley First could pick a new executive director by the end of this month, county manager Leroy Alsup said Monday.

"I don’t know that they’d actually be working by then," he said. "But by the end of September, first of October we hope to choose someone."

Cowley First is an economic development agency serving the county.

The group’s coordinating council received 15 or 16 applications in response to various ads placed seeking to fill the position. The post was formerly held by Debra Teufel who left to take an economic development job in Wichita.

The coordinating council is made up of representatives from Winfield, Arkansas City and the county. The group will review the applications and determine who will come in for interviews.
