Hill stepping down as leader of Cowley First

Heidi Hill resigned her position as director of Cowley First effective Aug. 6 and received $15,000 in severance pay as part of a separation agreement with the county, county administrator Leroy Alsup announced Tuesday.

Hill was placed on paid administrative leave last month and since then the county’s economic development operations have gone through Alsup. County officials would not disclose the reason Hill was placed on leave, because it was a personnel issue.

Alsup had said he was taking some time to determine whether Hill would return to her post.

The county is appreciative of Hill’s accomplishments during her tenure, Alsup said in a brief statement. She had played a role in the effort to keep the Winfield Correctional Facility operating during recent state budget reductions.

She joined Cowley First last fall and previously was director of the Winfield Area Chamber of Commerce.

Hill issued this statement via E-mail.

"It has been a true privilege to serve the businesses and people of Cowley County as the director of Economic and Community Development for Cowley First," she said. "I have been approached to fill a senior position in a Fortune 100 company that will allow me to telecommute, and therefore, I look forward to working on economic and community development projects in Cowley and Chautauqua counties on a volunteer basis."
