An Oklahoma man walking in the southbound lane of U.S. 77 north of Newkirk Friday night was struck and killed by a vehicle traveling in the same lane, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
Victor Joy Martin, 48, of Woodward, Okla.,? was pronounced dead at the scene.
Janet Louise Sheik, 61, Newkirk, was driving the 2005 Chevrolet Tracker that struck Martin. Neither she or a passenger, Kenneth Leo Sheik, 63, also of Newkirk, were injured.
The accident occurred at 11:15 p.m. about three miles north of Newkirk. Martin was walking south in the southbound lane of the two-lane asphalt highway. Sheik was also headed south and failed to see Martin in the road before the vehicle struck him, the highway patrol reported.
