A fire in a two-story house at 1115 N. G St. Sunday night started in a mattress, according to the Arkansas City Fire Department.
Light smoke was reported when firefighters were dispatched to the home at 7:29 p.m. Winfield firefighters were also dispatched to the scene.
The family was out of the home when the first firefighters arrived. A flash fire occurred in an upper room with flames showing shortly after the first responders arrived. No one was hurt.
The fire was contained to one bedroom. Red Cross was notified. The investigation is continuing. The family’s name was not available.
