Capital murder suspect Justin Thurber is back in Cowley County after being taken to Larned for a mental evaluation, law enforcement sources said.
Thurber returned to Winfield Thursday and should be back in a courtroom soon so that the status of his case can be evaluated. Attorneys for the Arkansas City man told the court he was incompetent to stand trial based on the opinion of a mental health professional hired by the defense.
Thurber’s October trial date was postponed in late September so that prosecutors could have their own mental evaluation performed.
Thurber is accused in the Jan. 2007 disappearance and death of Jodi Sanderholm, a Cowley College student.
