Reserve a spot at Soroptimist turkey dinner

The Soroptimist of Winfield are busy organizing the 24th annual community meal for couples and singles who find themselves alone on Thanksgiving Day.

The traditional Thanksgiving meal will begin with a social at 11:30 a.m. and dinner served at noon in the First United Methodist Fellowship Hall, 10th and Millington Street.

The turkeys are cooked by Soroptimists in their own homes. The cooks save their turkey drippings for the gravy to be made at the church. Volunteers also make the dressing and pies the day before.

Jell-O salads, cranberries and candied apple slices are topped off with pumpkin pie.

Winfield Laundry provides cloth tablecloths. A fall centerpiece and a favor will also be found at each table.

The organization usually receives enough donations to give something to other organizations including the food pantry, Safe Homes and Helping Hands at the church.

There is no charge but reservations are appreciated and may be made by calling Evelyn Watt at 221-4355 or Betty Nation at 221-9611.
