County: Parkerfield will pay for spot on map

Cowley County’s newest city has asked the county commission to add the city to the large map of the county on the outside north wall of the county courthouse.

The commission was scheduled to discuss the request from the city of Parkerfield during Tuesday morning’s commission meeting, but postponed action until the Dec. 9th meeting so Parkerfield Mayor Mike Bergagnini and other residents may attend, according to county administrator Leroy Alsup.

"It would involve putting the city on the map just like all the other cities in the county on the map," he said.

The 396 residents incorporated in 2004 as a result of annexation issues with the city of Arkansas City. Parkerfield is located on the east side of the town.

Alsup said the commission has one estimate of the cost from a monument company that does stone work for $425.

"In a discussion we indicated the commission would probably ask them to pay for it," Alsup said. "The mayor indicated that would not be a problem."

Parkerfield is the eighth city in the county. The city council meets at 7 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month at the Cresswell Township Hall. Meetings are open to the public.
