Chief warns of Christmas crimes possibilities

Arkansas City Police Chief Sean Wallace is reminding people to take extra measures to secure their homes during the Christmas seasons.

"Thieves will break in anticipating expensive and new items under the Christmas tree that are easy to take because they are all in one place," he said. "Police recommend keeping blinds closed that may reveal presents under a tree to someone looking through a window of your home.

"Better yet, do not put presents out until Christmas eve or Christmas morning, but keep them secured somewhere else in the house," Wallace said.

Police are investigating a case of trespassing that occurred Dec. 15 when someone kicked in the back door of Dennis Jones’ residence in the 1100 block of N. First Street. Drawers and a closet were searched but nothing was taken.

Investigators are also asking for help in catching whoever painted graffiti on the Arkansas City Public Library. Police have no suspects and are asking anyone with information about the crime to call the police department at 442-4444 or Crime Stoppers at 620-442-7777 or 620-221-7777.
