8 Cowley cities have open seats; filing to end

All eight Cowley County cities will have vacancies to fill on their city councils during the spring general election on April 7.

The filing deadline is noon Jan. 27. Arkansas City and Winfield council candidates file at their city clerk’s office. Others may file with their city?clerk’s office or with the county clerk’s office at the courthouse.

Arkansas City will have three seats to fill that are currently held by Patrick McDonald, Joel Hockenbury and Scott Margolius.

Atlanta also needs to elect three to seats held by W. Dennis King,
Veronica Bohrer and Lawrence Edgar Clark.

Kyle Wham, Jerry W. Stover and Duane L. Wingert face expiring terms on the Burden City Council.

In Cambridge and Dexter, five council members need to be elected in each city. Bonnie Redford, Charles Liebau, Lawrence Holt, Ernie Hull and Allen Miller currently make up the Cambridge council. In Dexter, Brian Kuntz, Ed Young, Kent Killingsworth, George Reimer and Jim P. Bradley are members of the city council.

The county’s newest city – Parkerfield – needs to elect a mayor and two council members. The seats are currently held by Michael Bergagnini, Dorothy Milliron and Deuane Wells.

Udall needs a mayor and two council people:Chris Lette is the current mayor. Mary Hilderbrand and John H.F.Adams Jr., are the two council members with terms expiring.

Winfield has only a three-person council. Tom McNeish and Michael Ledy are up for re-election.

A primary will be held March 3 if necessary.
