AC woman is injured in Butler County crash

Two injury accidents just minutes apart in Butler County Tuesday morning were blamed on icy roads.

A 20-year-old Ark City woman, Renee Johnson, was injured when she lost control of her passenger car about 9:15 a.m. on U.S. 77, north of Douglass.

The car crossed the center line and struck a semi being driven by William’s Sacks, 56, Pittsburg, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol. The semi went into a ditch and caught fire.

A third vehicle was being driven by Cheryl Moore, 35, Douglass. Her passenger car struck a tire that came off the first car and was still in motion.

Neither Sacks or Moore were injured. The Patrol reported that Johnson went to Wesley Medical Center but she was not listed as a patient Wednesday morning.

The second accident occurred at 9:08 a.m. three miles west of Leon. Angela Hickman, 25, Augusta, lost control of her passenger car on the icy road, slid into a ditch and struck a pole. Hickman suffered possible injuries. A passenger, Monika Jones, 31, also of Augusta, was injured, the Patrol reported.

The two were taken to Susan B. Allen Hospital in El Dorado but no information was available on their injuries.
