AC cops: Man is arrested with gun and weed

Pot and a handgun got Ark City’s Kenji T. Walker into trouble with local authorities Wednesday, according to a report from the Ark City police department.

Officers went to the 1300 block of W. Kansas around 4:30 p.m. after getting a report that a gun had been fired in the area. The suspect was gone when police arrived but officers were given a vehicle description and partial tag number.

Then things got interesting.

Police spotted the car in the 1000 block of N. Summit and followed it to the 900 block where the driver turned in a driveway and drove into the backyard of a residence. Walker, 29, was arrested and was said to be in possession of small amount of marijuana and a gun, police said.

He also had a suspended driver’s license.

After being taken into custody, Walker ended up at the hospital in Ark City twice for two separate episodes of what police termed "seizure like activities."

He was treated and released back to police each time.

The second time he tried to escape, but was apprehended after a foot chase.

He was taken to the Cowley County Jail and faces charges of aggravated assault, criminal possession of a firearm, possession of marijuana-second offense and driving on a suspended license-second offense.

A charge of obstruction of official duty, a felony, is also likely, due to Walker’s attempt to flee, police said. Bond was set at $9,500 but was increased to $11,500 following the addition of the obstruction charge.
