Thurber jury pool at 42; Elims to begin Friday

The selection of a 42-person jury pool was completed late Thursday afternoon in the capital murder case of Justin Thurber of Arkansas City.

The attornies involved will return to the courtroom at 9:30 a.m. Friday with Judge Jim Pringle to review the 42 candidates. They hope to decide sometime Friday on who the 12 jurors and four alternates will be.

Those selected will be contacted by court clerks, said chief clerk Marilyn Leith.

Jury selection began in Cowley County District Court in Winfield Monday morning. A total of 42 potential jurors was needed before the jury of 12 and four alternates could be chosen.

Thurber is accused of the 2007 kidnapping and murder of Jodi Sanderholm, a popular Arkansas City resident and Cowley College student.

More than 400 potential jurors filled out questionnaires in regard to the case.
