Truck and train collide north of Newkirk Mon.

A semi truck collided with a Burlington Northern Santa Fe train just north of Newkirk, Okla. early Monday. The truck was destroyed but no injuries were reported, according to information available at the scene.

The truck was owned by BCI Barn Builders, a Ft. Gibson, Okla.-based barn materials supplier.

The driver, Ron Sinclair, 41, of Tahlequah, Okla., said he was on his way to make a delivery and missed his turn due to the fog. He pulled onto a side road to turn around and became high centered on the railroad tracks.

Sinclair said he had stopped to make sure there was no train coming and as he crossed the tracks his trailer’s rear tires came off the ground. He began efforts to put boards under the back tires when his biggest concern was realized.

"I seen the headlight, I heard the horn and I had about 10, 15 seconds to get out of the truck. And that’s what I did," Sinclair said in an interview with KSOK Radio at the scene.

The accident occurred before 8 a.m. about three miles north of Newkirk just off the U.S. 77 highway corridor. Check back with NewsCow for more details.
