Country Mart, threat suspect jailed in Wichita

A Winfield teen accused of the armed robbery of an Arkansas City convenience store and? making a bomb threat at Winfield High School has to spend 42 days in the Sedgwick?County jail for failing to appear for court hearings there.

If Antwone J. Martin is released by Sedgwick County when his time is up, he’ll be able to make his next appearance in Cowley County District Court in Arkansas City May 21 on the two criminal cases pending here.

Martin had been released from the local jail in Winfield on his own recognizance – a practice that enables an accused awaiting trial to be released without posting any security other than promise to appear in court at the proper time.

He was taken back into custody by a Cowley County deputy March 29 after the deputy checked out three people walking in the 1800 block of Andrews Street in Winfield.? The deputy learned two no-bond warrants were pending out of?Sedgwick County for Martin.

Martin was returned to the Cowley County jail until the next day when Sedgwick County authorities picked him up and booked him into the Sedgwick County jail.

A detention hearing was held April 2 and Martin was sanctioned for failing to appear on two juvenile cases, according to a Sedgwick County District?Court clerk.. The sanction included 42 days in the adult jail.

He was on probation for criminal deprivation of property and misdemeanor theft, a spokesperson in the Sedgwick County District? Attorney’s office said.

Martin and Michael Horn 18, are suspects in connection with a bomb threat called in to the high school Oct. 8. Both the high school and middle school were evacuated while the grounds were searched.

That case has been combined with the case involving the robbery of the Ark City Country Mart Sept. 21. Both Martin and Horn are charged with the robbery along with Horn’s mother, Salena Dennis, 38, and Horn’s step-father, Harry Miller, 48. The four were living together in Winfield when arrested.

Their last court appearances in Cowley County was March 26. All four have been released from jail. They are to report to court officials weekly while waiting their May 21 hearing.
