AC school district to break ground at IXL Fri.

School district officials in Arkansas City will break ground this week on a renovation project at IXL Elementary School. The work is part of a $35.7 million bond issue passed last year.

A ceremony to kick off the start of the project is set for 1 p.m. Friday at the school. Work at IXL will be the most extensive done at any of the district’s elementary schools.

IXL’s east-west wing will be demolished to provided an expanded and safer parking area. The old wing will be replaced with a new 28,000 square-foot building which include three new early childhood classrooms and a FEMA-approved storm shelter.

Students at the school will participate in the ceremony, as will district administrators, school board officials and IXL staff.
