Registered sex offender is arrested in Burden

A registered sex offender living in Burden was arrested Tuesday and faces a felony charge in connection with an incident involving a child under the age of 14, Cowley County Sheriff Don Read said.

George L. Brown, 61, was taken into custody after authorities served a search warrant at his home on E. Fifth St. in Burden. He is being held on one count of aggravated indecent liberties with a child but has not been formally charged.

A first court appearance has yet to be set.

Brown is required by law to register as a sex offender because of a Sept. 2006 conviction on a charge of lewd and lascivious behavior. He has to provide his address to the sheriff’s office and they make that information available to the public.

Read could provide little information about the crime that is alleged to have occurred but did say that a parent of the child involved knew Brown.

Police in Burden assisted in serving the search warrant.
