Local man critically hurt in dirt-bike accident

Injuries from a dirt-bike accident May 16 have left a Winfield man hospitalized and in critical condition. Family and friends are asking for help raising money for medical and other expenses.

Jason Sutton, 24, was injured during an accident at Kansas Badlands Off-Road Park near South Haven, according to Lindsay Green, a family friend. He was wearing a helmet but landed on his head and was unconscious.

Sutton has been a patient in the intensive care unit at Via Christi-St. Francis from the time he was transported there the day of the crash. He suffered injuries to the head that caused swelling in his brain and required surgery.

He also has struggled with pneumonia and remains in a coma. Updates on Sutton’s condition can be found at CaringBridge. A hospital spokesperson said Sutton was still in critical condition Friday morning.

Sutton is a long-time Winfield resident and lives here with his wife, Cheryl, and three children, Kaitlynn, 9, Jaden, 3, and Braden, 1. He is a son of the late Gordon Sutton, who maybe familiar to some as a long-time employee of Winfield High School.

Jason Sutton was the main provider for his family, Green said, so those that know him are to hoping raise funds to help defray the cost of medical expenses and to help his wife and children.
