Oxford police make pair of drug-related busts

Police in Oxford made two drug busts and a pair of arrests late last week as part of an ongoing effort to crack down on drug usage, chief Kirk Ives said.

Search warrants were used at two properties, one on N. Ohio and another on N. Kansas. Ives said names and the specific locations of the homes would be released once formal charges are filed.

The suspects remained in the Sumner County Jail over the weekend. The two cases were not related to one another but were part of an ongoing effort to target residences believed to be involved in drug use or sales.

Marijuana was found at one home, Ives said, while police found a far-less common hallucinogenic drug at the other location. One of the homes is believed to be within 1,000 feet of a school, which could bring stiffer charges.

The Sumner County Sheriff’s office assisted in the searches.
Ives ? who has been on the job less than a year ? said an officer had approached him about getting tougher on drug offenders and targeting homes that had been suspected of drug activity for awhile.

"And I said let’s do it," Ives said. "This is part of that effort."
