Ark City water dept. to flush hydrants Monday

Arkansas City’s water department is set to begin its annual fire hydrant flushing and flow testing program.

Starting Monday, the department will begin flushing in section 12, an area the includes all hydrants in the Second St. and Skyline Rd. area, south and east to Radio Lane to Timberlane. This will continue for several days.

Any flushing will be conducted from 8 a.m to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Water customers in the affected areas may experience temporary discoloration or low water pressure during this time. Most discoloration can be fixed by flushing a faucet for a few minutes, according to a statement from the city.

If flushing does not correct the problem or there is a continued loss of pressure, contact the Water Dept. at 441-4480 or 441-4492.

Customers are advised not to do their laundry if their water becomes discolored. If a customer does do laundry, and it becomes stained, they should leave the laundry wet and contact the water department for detergent designed to remove such stains.
