Pair arrested after pot plant is found in garden

Two people from Arkansas City ended up in jail Friday after police found a marijuana plant in a backyard garden, according to a written report.

Candace Elaine Manly, 48, and Freddie Wayne Manly Jr, 28, face possible charges that include possession of marijuana, possession of drug manufacturing paraphernalia, possession of drug-use paraphernalia and cultivating marijuana.

The pair were busted around 9 a.m when the Cowley County Drug Task Force responded to a complaint of subjects growing pot in the 1300 Block of S. B Street.

Officers found a plant growing in a backyard garden at 1310 South B, spoke with those living at the home and susequently arrested the two suspects.

A search of the inside of the home turned up paraphernalia and what is believed to be marijuana.

Bond was set at $8,000 for each suspect. Items collected from the property have been submitted to the Kansas Bureau of Investigation for testing.
