Westar gives $3,300 to local United Way group

Suzanne Coin, Westar Energy Business Manager, recently presented a Westar Foundation $3,300 check to the Cowley County United Way. Allen Polen, United Way Board president, received the check.

The donation was made at an Arkansas City presentation for Westar employees. Following the program, employees had an opportunity to sign up for United Way payroll deductions.

Becky Long, United Way campaign coordinator, has made many similar presentations and visited numerous county businesses.

This year, the United Way Board also tried something new and sent a general mailing. Positive results exceeded expectations. It provides a giving opportunity if one does not have access to payroll deductions because of retirement or an employer does not offer this way of giving.

United Way of America’s emphases are family-oriented: (1) health, (2) education and (3) financial stability. Cowley County United Way particularly supports agencies that serve locally.

Cowley County United Way supports these agencies: Arkansas City Habitat for Humanity; Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Cowley County; Boy Scouts; CASA of Cowley County; Cowley County American Red Cross; Cowley County Humane Society; Eagle Nest; Family Life Services; Girl Scouts; Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice; REACH Tiny-K Infant Toddler Services; Safe Homes; Sunflower Outreach Services (Joseph’s Storehouse); Salvation Army; Winfield Community Food Pantry; Winfield Habitat for Humanity; and Winfield Thrift Store.
