Fire torches truck at Auto Techs lot on Wed.

An electrical-based fire torched a flat-bed tow truck at an Auto Techs location in east Winfield Wednesday.

A worker was preparing to load a car onto the truck at Auto Techs’ used car lot at Ninth and Wheat Rd. when the fire broke out, owner Brian Perrigo said. Someone saw electricity arcing around one of the truck’s electrical systems just before the blaze occurred.

The vehicle was parked outside a garage at the Auto Techs facility.

"I’m not really exactly sure what happened," Perrigo said. "Everything was fine one minute, and all the sudden we have a fire."

The Winfield Fire Department was on scene to snuff the flames. Flatbed tow trucks can cost $40,000 or more, Perrigo said.
