Humane society offering spay, neuter voucher

The Cowley County Humane Society is offering nearly 90 people a coupon for $50 as part of an effort to promote the spaying and neutering of pets.

The county’s first Spay Day USA event is set for Feb. 23 at the Humane Society’s shelter at 222nd Rd. and U.S. 77 Highway. Pet owners wishing to receive a voucher should stop by the shelter on that day and fill out a simple survey.

"We are excited to offer this program for the first time to our community to help offset the cost of having pets spayed or neutered," said CCHS Shelter Director Teresa Harden. "We hope our participation in Spay Day will help educate owners on the benefits of having their pets spayed and neutered, and to help raise awareness about the overwhelming number of animals that enter animal shelters each year."

The only requirements for receiving a voucher are completion of the survey and usage of the voucher within 30 days of receipt.

A grant from Power of the Purse and the Legacy Foundation have helped fund the program.

Leadership Southwestern also has provided funding for the project.

Some local vet clinics — such as Ark Veterinary Associates, Cedar Vale Vet Clinic, Cottonwood Animal Clinic, and Winfield Veterinary Hospital — will be offering surgery discounts in conjunction with this event.

Also to promote the cause, CCHS encourages everyone to "Wear your Awareness" with a specially-designed "Spay/Neuter" T-shirt which is being offered for a reduced price of $14.

This design and others are available on the humane society’s Online Store at www.cowleycountyhumanesociety.org.
