2,000 pounds of copper goes missing in AC

Ark City Police are looking into the theft of roughly 2,000 pounds of copper wiring and tubing that’s gone missing from A to Z Scrap Metal.

Sometime between 6 p.m. Monday and 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, unknown persons entered the business at 1400 W. Madison and removed the copper. Given the weight of what was stolen, police think perpetrators would’ve needed a pickup or flatbed truck to move it.

There was also likely more than one person involved.

The copper taken was potentially worth thousands of dollars when resold.

Ark City authorities said that the theft of these types of metals often goes hand in hand with the drug trade. The metal is often sold and used to fund a habit or drug operation.

If anyone has information about who committed this crime, please contact the Arkansas City Police Department at 441-4444, or call Crime Stoppers at 442-7777 or 221-7777.??In addition to being eligible for up to a $1,000.00 reward from Crime Stoppers, A-Z Scrap Metal is also offering a reward for the capture of these individuals.
