James Burdett

James "Alfred" Burdett, 91, of Sedan, Kan., passed away Thursday afternoon, May 6, 2010, at the Sedan City Hospital.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow at Cedar Vale Cemetery.

Memorials have been established in Alfred’s name for the American Cancer Society, Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice and the Sedan Senior Center. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Born January 7, 1919, in Leeds, he was the son of Silas Russell and Mamie Anne (Lambert) Burdett. He was raised and received his education in Leeds and later graduated from Cedar Vale High School.

He was united in marriage to Leona Fern on March 25, 1939, in Winfield. Alfred was a farmer. He also raised paint horses. Mrs. Burdett preceded him in death on April 4, 2008.

He is survived by his daughters, Nedra Ann Burdett, and Janet L. Evans, both of Sedan; his grandsons, Richard A. Evans, Nelson D. Evans, and James A.M. Evans; his nine great-grandchildren; 11 great-great grandchildren; his brother, Lambert Allen Burdett, Grenola; his sister, Mary Alice Allison, Grenola; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

In addition to his parents and his wife, Alfred was preceded in death by his brother, Sam Burdett and his sister, Alma Bainter.
